Mad Alchemist's Pots Pacify Potion-Makers

The latest update on the PTR patch notes page suggests that Blizzard's heard the complaints of angry alchemists dissatisfied with only getting a new unique sound for cauldrons in 2.3. We alchemists were mad, and we weren't going to take it anymore!

The developers' response? Mad alchemist potions, a super rejuvenation potion for alchemists only which promises some mysterious "other side effects." As always, MMO-Champion has the latest, but so far my priest hasn't been able to located the recipe on the test server. Still, it's cheap, it's trainable, and it finally gives us a use for ragveil. Suddenly I'm not feeling so mad after all.

I'm glad Alchemy is getting looked at i'm just hoping it has some super duper side effects for a good duration of time.

Somehow I think it's equally likely it'll just turn you into a leper gnome.

Here are the things I believe need to be changed with Alchemy to make it a worth-while profession:

1. The elemental protection potions need to be upped past the 2 min mark. I mean, they dropped them from an hour to 2 minutes. WTF is that? How about 30 min?

2. The cool downs for transmutation need a serious reduction. Right now, being a master of transmutes is pointless and a waste of 5 Primal Mights.

3. Let us make Alchemist Stones for other people, and just make it requre a primal nether. We get to make 1 epic item and its a BoP. Geee, thanks.

4. How about you make some Health and Mana potions that are comparable to a Level 70 character. When you are fighting things that do a good 3K+ in damage, a 3200 Health Pot is a drop in the bucket.

5. Since Blizzard insists that they didn't want the game to revolve around farming, make it so plants yield more than 3 herbs, or at least ALWAYS 3. It annoys me when me, a 375 Herbalist, picks a plant and gets one f'ing herb. F U Blizzard!

6. Please remove the "lots of 5" on the higher-level vials. It's very annoying to have to purchase 20 of them in stacks of 5. It's a minor gripe, but when you are brewing 100+ pots, it's time consuming. Especially when you have people in your ear yelling, "Are you ready for a summon yet?"

And a personal request (non-Alchemy related)...

7. Please... PLEASE, let me ban those people from the server who take it upon themselves to change the economy? On my server, Primal Fires run between 20-25g each. Yesterday, I came across someone who had 27 for sale in the AH all for 6g each. I immediately snatched them up and relisted them, but I'm sure some people saw them and asked themselves, "How can he sell them for so cheap and everyone else is so high." You people should be banned from WoW for at least one month. You are evil, and I don't like you. LOL

I'd actually love for my Alchemist Stone to be upgradeable. It's nice when you've just hit 70, but pales in comparison to other trinkets before long.

Also, while I agree with most of your complaints (though maybe not the transmute mastery one... earth>water has been treating me nicely), if I found 27 Primal Fires for 6g each, I'd be celebrating. Ye gods, that's insane.

I was so excited when I first got this thing. A trinket with stats in every category, plus it makes potions better? Awesome... Then it dawned on me. I can't use items in Bear or Cat form, which means no healing potions while tanking, and in order to down one when I am DPS, it requires a shift out and a sift back. Its quite annoying.

I discovered the other night that while in bear, I can click on the portal when a Warlock makes Health Stones while in Bear. I can click on the cauldron to TAKE a health stone while in Bear. I can not use a health stone while in Bear. (I picture the programming studio of Blizzard as being a room full of brilliantly geeky geniuses who have no common sense whatsoever.)

(though maybe not the transmute mastery one... earth>water has been treating me nicely)

Yes, though correct me if I am wrong in saying that you only have a chance of proc'ing a 2nd primal, and you still have a 23 hour CD to wait on, correct? If so, whoopdee-f'ing-doo. LOL - Without x-mute mastery, you can still make 1 primal in 23 hours. Then with potions or elixirs mastery, you can make as many of them as you want, all day long, and never have a CD to wait for.

Point and case, x-mute mastery is a useless profession the way it is now.

I picked up my Alchemy Stone recipe the othet day. But its useless to me as a tank. Only use it has for me is in my DPS gear just out on quest maybe.

Be nice if it could be upgraded or create different kinds of alchemist stone to fit different kind of uses.

Blue posted more details on this potion in the PTR forums. No link, because I can't get to official forums from work. From what they said the potion will sometimes give a random elixir buff that doesn't count against the Battle + Defensive / Flask buffs. Should be fun.

As for Alchemy making money - I make 50-55g a day doing an Earthstorm Diamond transmute. It helps that I have 3 max level alchemists so I can buy 4xPrimal Earth instead of 2xEarth and 2xWater. In the last week my Tranmutation Spec has proc'd three times giving me 3 free Diamonds that had no material costs and sold for 70-75g each.

Oh, and I still use my Alchemists Stone when healing certain bosses on my paladin. That extra mana can be a lifesaver. I'll probably be using it in BGs for awhile now that the new potion is coming. I have 6 stacks of Super Rej potions that I haven't used - and the new potion is better so I may as well use what I have.

I would love to see it upgradable, but there are very few items that have no replacements in this game (damn those warriors and their BS weapons).

Girl Meets WoW said...

Messyah - actually, transmute mastery can proc from 2-5 primals. I've only gotten up to 4, though.

Rcole - I understand what you are saying, but look at it from my point of view:

You make a diamond and sell it for 75g. If you are lucky, you proc and make a second and sell it as well. That's 150g, but thanks to the global cool down, you are done for the day.

Now, lets say your are a Master of Elixirs and you are making Elixirs of Major Agility. Each stack (5) sells for 20-25g. Each potion takes Felweed (2) and Terocone (1). So, 40 Felweed and 20 Terocone get you a guaranteed 4 stacks. That's 80-100g in sales. Now, if you are lucky and you get a 50% proc rate, that's 2 more stacks and is essentially another 40-50g in sales. But, here is the difference maker. You can go get more mats and sell more elixirs all in the same day. There's no cool down holding you back.

See what I mean?

Btw, factoring in 2 more high-level Alchemists completely changes the equation. :-)

GMW - Does that 1-5 primal proc include Primal Mights? I ask because since people found out I could make them, those are the only primals I am commissioned to make. LOL

Dorgol said...

Just coming back to this conversation since 2.3 is here and I finally get to use the new potion.

Anyway, 'GMW': Elixir spec doesn't cut it on my server (Boulderfist US). Alliance side raiding is basically dead, and raiders are the primary group to buy elixirs. Call me nuts, but I hate putting something up for auction and it not selling. That rarely happens with Diamonds - but happens all the times with potions and elixirs.

Messyah - Transmutation spec can proc 2-5 of anything you transmute (including Arcanite Bars or something goofy like that). I've never received more than 1 extra in all the transmutes I've done.

I tend not to create a great deal of responses, however I read a few of the comments here "Mad Alchemist's Pots Pacify Potion-Makers".
I do have a few questions for you if it's okay. Is it just me or do some of these remarks come across as if they are left by brain dead people? :-P And, if you are writing on other social sites, I'd
